When You're Not Hungry But You Still Want To Eat

Do you want to eat even when you're not hungry?

For most of my life I didn't eat when I was hungry. When I felt hunger, I wouldn't eat and I'd congratulate myself for "being strong." Later, in a moment of "weakness," I'd stuff my face and beat myself up about it. Does this sound like you?

If it does, you're not alone. Millions of women struggle with emotional eating, restrictive dieting, and hating themselves for how they eat and look.

When I had enough and knew it was time for me to graduate from dieting and emotional eating, I sought help. I reached out to a counselor, went to lots of workshops, and read a lot of books. The first thing they all said was: let yourself eat.

That terrified me because the last thing I wanted to do was get fat.

But it was exactly what I needed to hear.

We need to let ourselves eat in order to heal. We need to remember that our bodies require fuel.

We also need to honor our hunger when it comes.

Eating when we're hungry helps our bodies trust that food is available—that we aren't in danger of starving. When our bodies trust more food is coming, we are much less compelled to stuff our faces.

When we eat when we're hungry and stop restricting ourselves, our bodies understand that we are no longer in a famine, so we have no reason to binge. Plus, if our bodies know more food is coming, they are less likely to hold onto excess weight for self-preservation.

Let yourself eat. Carry snacks in your purse that you are allowed to eat when you're hungry. Make delicious meals for yourself and sit down to enjoy them. Next time you feel the physical urge to eat, give yourself some food. And not just any food—ask yourself what would be most pleasurable and go get it. Why not? If you're going to spend time eating, you may as well make it delightful!

The more often you eat when you're hungry, the less likely you'll be compelled to eat when you're not.

Bonus: the more you listen to and follow your body's hunger cues, the more likely you are to hear the other signals your body may be sending you... Such as intuitive messages.

Your relationship with food is a doorway into your soul, your intuition, your Truth.
